Avery’s on Tulane Announces Restaurant Closure After Nine Years

After opening in 2012, Avery’s on Tulane has been through their share of struggles. Opened up by husband/wife duo Christy and Justin, the family-owned and operated restaurant was “dedicated to the revitalization of New Orleans and Tulane Avenue.”

They received high praise from locals and tourists alike, and even drew the attention of Guy Fieri for Diners, Drive ins, and Dives in March 2019, just one year before the pandemic struck.

Avery’s was closed for a short-period of time following March 2020, then reopened for service in May of the same year, closing at different intervals ever since. Though, like many restaurants in the city, it is difficult to restart and fully return when a city that survives on tourists suddenly has none. Due to the road bumps of life, Avery’s will not reopen. Their gumbo will be missed, as will their stacked po’boys! Their traditional New Orleans flavor and creations have left a lasting legacy on Tulane Avenue.
