The only full-time comedy venue in the city, Comedy House New Orleans, is proud to present the first-ever class of “Heating Up” this Sunday, January 29th at 7:00p.The show is designed to recognize up-and-coming comedians who are, according to the event, poised to have an amazing 2023.

“As the scene continues to develop and expand down here, it was important for us to establish an annual event like this,” said Comedy House talent buyer Chris Trew.

“Something for new comics to aim for.” Trew is also the booker for the annual Hell Yes Fest and is co-presenting the event along with Comedy House. Events like Heating Up, Trew says, give local comedians more things to include on their resumes, which in turn gives them more opportunities.

But Comedy House didn’t do this all on their own. They asked a handful of local show bookers and festival directors to nominate someone they thought would have an incredible 2023. The only rule was that the comic had to be “new-ish.” The first-ever class of Heating Up includes Sakinah Daaz, Daryl Peterson, Aftan Captain, Clara Kelley, Ben Bauman, and Matthew LaRocca. The show is hosted by Brandon Haynes, who Trew says would have been on Heating Up had it existed in 2022.

But that’s the plan moving forward – every January we can look forward to a new class of Heating Up, nominated by local comedy bookers, Hell Yes Fest, and Comedy House.
