Watch: One Year Ago Today Drew Brees Broke Payton Manning’s Record For Career Passing Yards

It was just one year ago today that Drew Brees broke Payton Manning’s record for career passing yards against the Washington Redskins. A lot has changed since that moment on Monday Night Football. The Redskins have fired coach Jay Gruden, the Saints lost in the NFC championship game thanks to some bad officiating, and Drew Brees is currently watching from the sidelines with an injury.

While it’s been a remarkable 365 days, one thing is for certain, this moment will stay with Saints fans forever. Drew beat the record in front of a sold-out crowd on Monday night football. The completion and record-breaking play came on a long 62 yard TD pass to rookie wide receiver Tre’quan Smith. Brees eclipsed 71,000 career yards on the play, a remarkable number for an NFL quarterback.

As we reflect one year ago on this amazing accomplishment, we take a look at the play from a different viewpoint, directly from Drew himself. NFL films released a mic’d up version of the play, and it shows the emotion and beauty of Brees breaking the record. Watch it all unfold below.

Now how could that not get you excited for the rest of this year? The 4-1 Saints take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this week in Jacksonville.
