Drew Brees Believes He ‘Can Beat’ Six-Week Rehab for Injured Thumb

For about two weeks now New Orleans has talked more about Drew Brees thumb than our upcoming governor race. I mean can you really blame us? Governor Edwards looks like a sure thing for four more years, and we really only have so much time left with Drew Brees.

After tearing ligaments in his thumb vs. the Rams, 6-8 weeks was the expected timeline for Drew to return to the starting lineup. But in a radio interview with WWL this morning, Drew said he believes he “can beat that” timeline.

“As far as the timetable for getting back though, they say 6 to 8 weeks. I think I can beat that, but I’m just gonna take it one week at a time and see how things go”

Brees has spoken to several high profile athletes in other sports that have had a similar injury. His goal was figuring out the best way of rehabbing his thumb, and being game-ready as soon as possible. Mike Trout and Chris Paul are just two of the players giving Brees advice on the rehab process.

In the meanwhile, Brees chatted about how weird it was to watch the Saints on TV this past Sunday and how excited he is to be back on the sideline for a primetime game with the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday night.

“It was weird watching on TV. It was really weird. I didn’t really like it. Listen to im still one of the leaders of this team and a captain. I’m gonna do whatever I can to help win” – Brees explained via Mike Triplett of ESPN

The Saints take on the Cowboys this Sunday night at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Gametime is set for 7:20 P.M. CST.
