Deep South Dance: A New Month Means New Music, New Events, and Everything In Between

September 2, 2019 | The kids are back in school, but the music doesn’t stop. Let’s get caught up on everything happening in our quirky corner of Southern dance music. Here’s your biweekly roundup…

PhaseOne and WAYVZ decimated City Bar Baton Rouge while Chris Lake brought the four-on-the-floor house beats to Republic NOLA this past weekend. Republic NOLA also hosted Hekler‘s dynamic mix of trap and dub the following night. Droeloe brought their mesmerizing tunes and cube to Republic NOLA the weekend prior.

We’re looking ahead to several shows over the next two weeks. Here are some you’re probably interested in: Void Pre-Party 2, Featuring DJ Otto and a listening party for The Iceman Special‘s new album at Santos Bar on September 3. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard also on September 3 at Joy Theater, Riot Ten at Republic NOLA on September 6, Lizzo will make a two night run at The Fillmore on September 7 and 8.

Flying Lotus at Joy Theater on September 12, Tash Sultana at Orpheum Theater on September 13, Dirt Monkey at Republic NOLA on September 14, and Lord Huron at Orpheum Theater on September 15. As always, all those techno lovers need to help to Techno Club’s facebook page to see what they have going on over the first two weeks of September

Last but not least, fresh tunes. New music is courtesy of Boogie T.Rio, sfam & TVBOO, Klutch, and Buckten. Let’s get into it…

Fresh Deep South Dance Releases

Boogie T. just released a brand new EP with his band Boogie T.Rio, and River Beats New Orleans has your first chance to listen.

The Three The People EP contains three brand new singles. It expands the band’s signature funk and rock fusion, and even a few heavier bass breakdowns. All tracks feature vocals by Boogie and keyboardist Andrew ˜Yano” Yanovski.

sfam TVBOO‘s long-awaited VIP of “dahshigo” is finally available to stream. The crowd-pleasing track has been mesmerizing audiences around the country for months.

Klutch released two tracks. “Just Listen” and “Just Breathe” are very different tracks, but they both share the same creative flair we’re accustomed to seeing in any Klutch track.

BuckTen released a heavy, dreamy track called “Nectar.” Appropiately, it’s reminiscent of a Bassnectar track, in my opinion.
