Fireman Mike’s Lakeview Sweet Shop Closes Doors Following Health Issues

Last May, Fireman Mike opened up Fireman Mike’s Cafe and Sweet Shop along Harrison Avenue in Lakeview. The store served up the neighborhood with tasty po-boys and desserts for close to a year and a half. Unfortunately, on September 1, the Fireman Mike’s Facebook page announced that they were closing due to Mike’s health issues.

In the post, pictured below, he explains after “30+ years of Type 1 diabetes” his body won’t allow him to continue the journey.

“I’m very proud of the food we put out and mostly of my family and staff that all worked hard to help us develop our ideas and format. It took a village.”

Fireman Mike is not only known for his delicious eats he served at the shop, but his Jazz Fest food booth which draws quite the crowd, primarily for the alligator sauce piquant. Don’t fret, the family will still come together for Jazz Fest next year to make sure this legacy continues on.
