The Foundation of Funk project was conceived by legendary Meter’s vocalist and drummer, Zigaboo Modeliste. In 2015 Zig recruited fellow Meters bass player and anchor of The Meters’ rhythm section George Porter Jr to join him. The pair have been touring since the group’s creation, and are regular contributors to JazzFest.

Foundation of Funk shows draws from a unique collaborative format, with each set featuring a different cast of special guests along Zig and George. The group pays homage to the iconic discography of the NOLA funk band the Meters.

For their New Year’s Eve show, George and Zig are calling on jazz keyboard player John Medeski of Medeski Martin, and Wood & Word, and guitar player Eric Krasno of Soulive, formerly of Lettuce.
