Gus’s Fried Chicken Brings Home Top Award Following Fried Chicken Festival

This past weekend in New Orleans, some of the best fried chicken all congregated at Woldenberg Park for a tasty 3 day extravaganza! Both regional and national vendors attended the event, showcasing their fried chicken cooking and pairing skills. 

Taking home some of the prestigious awards from the weekend include Tennessee-based Gus’s, who won the award for “Best Fried Chicken.” While walking past Gus’s each time this weekend, the long line wrapped through the festival.

Southerns, a restaurant hailing from St. Louis, took home the award for “Best Use of Fried Chicken” for their “Otis Redding” Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Over 60 judges tasted their way through the vendors of chicken to select upon these two! The “Best Use of Fried Chicken” category is judged on a variety of options including flavor, crunchiness, and more. 

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken just recently opened up in the city earlier this summer, making their 30th location. They utilize a very detailed 12-step process for their chicken and pride themselves on serving fresh, never-frozen chicken. Something that more restaurants need to do!

Per their website, Southerns focuses on “soul food, friendly service, and fast casual dining” in the heart of St. Louis.
