The Original Krewe of Orpheus Suspends Parade Activities in Mandeville for 2020

The Original Krewe of Orpheus will not roll through Mandeville next year. The parade normally runs through Mandeville the Friday before Mardi Gras Day, but it seems some changes are happening to where they felt it would be better to pause for next year.

According to OKO Captain Chad Bordelon, he explains that that are “in the process of re-building [their] membership” and they did not feel that they could “display the type of parade Mandeville deserves.”

β€œIt is our plan to roll once again for Mardi Gras 2021. We have a core membership of about 100 adults who love Mardi Gras and want to parade in Mandeville. We feel that we need to double that membership in order to put on a really good parade.”

For 2021, some other changes may be happening such as an earlier parade date. With the Friday before Mardi Gras, they are competing against other large parades, so an earlier parade date may work best for them in the future. Bordelon explains that an “earlier parade route will draw visitors from all over the metro region to Mandeville.”

“Plan for our next parade to be Friday, January 29, 2021. Mardi Gras is February 16, 2021.”

The Original Krewe of Orpheus was formed in 1987 and began as an all-male krewe. They became a co-ed Krewe in 2017.
