Live Nation Begin Plans for Drive-In Shows & Online Events, Resume ‘Full Scale’ Concerts in 2021

As a company that thrives on live events, venues, promoters, and concerts, River Beats has struggled to make ends meet since the start of COVID-19. The worst part about this situation is that we are not unique. There are thousands of companies across the country in the live entertainment business struggling to make ends meet.

So when news breaks that Live Nation is working hard to figure it out in 2021, we get excited. Variety and The Consequence of Sound are reporting Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, told investors that the company plans to resume concerts, in a limited and scaled-down capacity, over the next six months. The ultimate goal is getting back to “full scale” production at the start of 2021.

In the meantime, Live Nation will start slow and small. Experimenting with fan-less or reduced-capacity shows. This includes indoor concerts without fans that would be streamed online. Outdoor concerts could be staged with some fans but where “there’s enough room to be safe.” The plan is also to roll out drive-in concerts similar to what has already been staged in some European countries.

“We think in the fall, if there are no second hotspots, you’ll see markets around the world [reopening]… And then our goal is really to be on sale in the third and fourth quarters for 2021 at full scale.”
