Major Retailers in New Orleans Limiting Number of Customers Inside Stores

As the number of coronavirus cases in New Orleans continues to rise, new rules and regulations are being implemented to protect the community. National grocery retailers with locations throughout the Greater New Orleans area including Walmart and Winn-Dixie, will begin limiting how many people are in the store at one time. This new rule is being implemented to help control the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Walmart, only five customers per 1,000 feet will be allowed in, and workers will be tasked with admitting them one-by-one into the store, according to Reuters. One-way movement throughout aisles is also being encouraged to limit close contact.

After two employees at Trader Joe’s tested positive with coronavirus, the organic foods mogul enforced this same policy to promote social distancing. Costco has also implemented something similar, only allowing two family members per membership card.

“While many of our customers have been following the advice of the medical community regarding social distancing and safety, we have been concerned to still see some behaviors in our stores that put undue risk on our people.”

– Dacona Smith, Walmart’s executive vice president and COO

Stay safe, stay inside, and wash your hands, New Orleans!
