“Inauthentic” globally-inspired Sunday brunch is now available at Mister Mao from 11 AM – 3 PM.

Mister Mao, from Chef Sophina Uong and husband/partner William “Wildcat” Greenwell, opened in July 2021 in Uptown New Orleans, and has since earned critical acclaim and praise for its bustling atmosphere, creative cocktails, and globally-inspired “inauthentic” cuisine. Answering the call to expand their offerings, the duo has recently introduced Sunday Brunch.

According to Uong,

“Since we opened, we’ve been asked repeatedly when brunch would come and are thrilled to finally say it’s here! The menu is as quirky and fun as dinner and we look forward to welcoming our guests in for a really unique Sunday Funday.”

They teased locals with their Thanksgiving Brunch back in November and now Uptown New Orleans can get their fix weekly. The brunch menu will change frequently, as does the dinner menu, but standout signature items include:

  • Kashmiri Hot Chicken Benedict served on a Hawaiian pineapple roll with a Vidalia onion milk gravy and sunny eggs
  • Jelly Doughnuts with orange flower water and a cardamom sugar
  • Chicken Tinga Chilaquiles with chili morita, mezcal serrano crema and local Mawi corn tortillas
  • Thai Shrimp Cake with sunny eggs, mustard greens, red curry, and hot ass fish sauce vinaigrette

The rotating menus at Mister Mao always feature a substantial selection of gluten-free offerings.

Cocktails, under the direction of William “Wildcat” Greenwell, are equally enticing with creative concoctions like the Walk of Shame – vodka, passionfruit, rose water, and lemon; Thunderclap –tequila, grapefruit + coffee science espresso; and the Hellfire Mary – Tabasco mash infused vodka, tomato, and sumac pickle.

Mister Mao is located at 4501 Tchoupitoulas in New Orleans (entrance on Jena Street) and serves dinner Thursday – Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) from 5 PM – 10 PM and brunch each Sunday from11AM – 3 PM.
