The Society for Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New Orleans raises $6,000 at 42nd Annual Mineral Auction
The University of New Orleans’ Society for Earth and Environmental Sciences held their 42 Annual Mineral Auction at Second Line Brewing this past Friday evening. The organization offered a mighty collection of gems, minerals, and jewelry pieces up for bid in order to raise money for scholarships, dues, and community involvement. Food was provided by local eateries C & C Meat Factory and Fete au Fete and fresh draft beer was provided by Second Line Brewing.
The brewery served as a perfect terrace-like setting for the auction and socializing crowd. Aside from the auction, there were booths set up selling single gems and crystals at very affordable prices. One of the booths even had small geodes that you could crack open yourself that added a great interactive element to the night. The event was thriving with guests of all ages and even dogs of all sizes. The energetic crowd showed up and was ready to take on their chances at some very fine pieces of minerals and fossils.
The inventory for the auction consisted of an array of exotic mineral pieces such as a mounted meteorite, a sheet of crystal onyx in the shape of Jesus, a mesmerizing slab of tiger’s eye, a framed piece of sandstone, a few sets of fine crystal jewelry, fossils and many more. The Society for Earth and Environmental Sciences raised an impressive $6,000 from the auction with the highest bid cashing in at over $500.
