NOPD Clears Saturday Bourbon Street Crowd Hours After City’s First Coronavirus Death [Watch]

Videos posted on social media showed NOPD vehicles moving onto Bourbon street intent on ending the partying. This comes only one day after Louisiana’s Governor banned gatherings of 250 people or more, NOLA has not taken that warning very well.

Bourbon street crowds swelled late Saturday night as tourists and locals flocked to the street to potentially enjoy one last night out before the city enacts larger Cornoavirus protocols. Around 1 am, NOPD vehicles crowded the streets, pushing crowds off the crowded concrete and back into hotels and bars.

Earlier Saturday Mayor Cantrell intervened at Tracy’s Irish Pub off magazine street after the bar essentially broke the governor’s orders by hosting hundreds of St. Paddy’s Day revelers.

All of this comes just hours after the city recorded its first death from Coronavirus,  a 58-year-old resident with underlying health conditions.

On Saturday Louisiana officials said the states’ number of coronavirus positives had reached 77, about double what the state had the day before.
