Adapt to survive, that seems to be the new normal for Restaurants throughout the country. It’s especially true in a food-rich place like New Orleans. With so many different options to dine in, only the restaurants able to pivot to a new “normal” will come out on top.
One of our favorite hot spots and a staple of the New Orleans food world is doing just that starting this week. Parkway Bakery is back and ready to serve customers with a unique twist to their takeout service.
Starting this Tuesday, May 12, Parkway will work with golf carts and sheer manpower to shuttle Po-boy orders from their kitchen to their massive rock parking lot next door. The service will resemble an old school drive-in restaurant in which customers pull into numbered spots, call in their order, and wait until their food is done. The staff and restaurant are calling it #CartlifeatParkway, and have been promoting it for almost a week now.
In a recent interview with NOLA.COM Parkway manager Justin Kennedy stated “The parking lot will be our restaurant to for now. We’ll have to learn new things. It’s changing and it’s going to keep changing, probably week by week.”
With new changes to service comes new hours. Parkway will operate Tuesday through Saturday, closing Sundays and Mondays. Currently, the parking lot at Parkway is being used for the Crescent City Farmers Market.
So if you’re like us, you can start licking your lips for some sloppy roast beer and crispy fried shrimp from one of NOLA’s favorite Po-boy spots.
