Dance Music Event Preview New Orleans Music

Thievery Corporation Return to New Orleans to Debut Their Babylon Falling Tour

It’s no doubt that we get tons of awesome music in Nola. We’re a bit spoiled like that. But when world-class acts repetitively come back to your city, that must mean you have something special. Thievery Corporation returns to New Orleans for the second time in a year this weekend.

The iconic duo visited us at this same time last year when they brought their Treasures of the Temple tour to the Joy Theater. They even made a street performance stop in Congo Square. For this year’s trip to Nola, the ensemble is stopping at the House of Blues.

Rob Garza and Eric Hilton always bring an awesome show with them. Their live shows span not only their decades of records but international collaborators and influences. Acid jazz, trip-hop, bossa nova, reggae dub – there’s not much the duo hasn’t done. We understand if navigating their discography may seem daunting.

This year, they’re debuting the Babylon Falling tour. In tour rehearsal videos the group released last month, we see a special acoustic aspect of their live set. The ensemble has promised performances of Thievery rarities performed in a brand new way.

Most of these acoustic reworks seem to be tracks taken from the group’s essential 2002 album The Richest Man in Babylon. With the album celebrating its 17th anniversary this season, we wonder if a Babylon remix album is on the horizon.

” The Babylon Falling tour will expose sides of our sonic creativity and influence yet to be seen live on stage. ”
