Summer is quickly coming to an end in New Orleans. As the heat (slowly) starts to die down and we make our way toward fall, we have a few beloved returning events. Lil’ Weezyana Fest returns to Champions Square, Art & A/C continues through the end of the month, and Chewbacchus rolls in their Midsummer Mardi Gras parade. This week in NOLA, check out these events and more.

Art & A/C

Each summer, Louisiana residents can escape the heat and enjoy free admission to select museums courtesy of The Helis Foundation. This month, Louisiana residents can take advantage of Art & A/C and receive FREE admission every Saturday in August to Contemporary Arts CenterOgden Museum of Southern Art, and New Orleans  Museum of Art.

Hiatus Kaiyote at The House of Blues

Australia’s fan-favorite jazz/funk band Hiatus Kaiyote is coming to New Orleans this month. They recently returned to recording with 2021’s album Mood Valiant. The album reached Australia’s Top Ten and was nominated for a Grammy at the 2022 awards. Don’t miss their performance at The House of Blues on August 16.

Ethiopian Feast at Addis NOLA

The Global Culinary Initiative Committee will showcase the cuisine of Ethiopia at an exceptional culinary feast at Addis NOLA. Priced at $75 per person, tickets to the event will include a multi-course family-style dinner, along with two drinks per person and a $25 donation to LDEI New Orleans. Guests can expect dishes like lamb tibs, traditional beef kifto, mar mitmita shrimp, and doro wat, an Ethiopian chicken stew. Executive Chef Prince Lobo will offer insight into each dish during the dinner and open a meaningful dialogue with guests.

Faubourg Free Sunset Concert Series

Join Faubourg for an evening of the best live, local music in town, delicious craft brews & tasty local eats! Saturday the 20th brings George Porter, Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners, plus Tony Hall Band. On the 27th, The Soul Rebels and Big in the 90s will perform. The free community events will also feature local food, plus an outdoor beer garden with bocce ball, disc golf, corn hole, giant Jenga, yard dominoes, Connect 4, and lots more yard games.

Virgin Hotels New Orleans 1-Year Anniversary Pool Party

Virgin Hotels New Orleans is turning one! Celebrate with us & Austin Cocktails at The Pool Club on Saturday, August 20, and enjoy beats by DJ KP, a swimsuit shopping pop-up with Arrow & Phoenix Swimwear, endless views, and a dip in the pool. Pool Passes are available for purchase for non-hotel guests, with complimentary access to The Pool Club Bar. 21+.

Lil’ Weezyana Fest

Lil Weezyana Fest returns to Champions Square for its sixth edition on Saturday, August 27. Don’t miss your chance to see Lil Wayne plus special guests, Moneybagg Yo, Coi Leray, BabyFace Ray, Rob49, and more.

Chewbacchus does Midsummer Mardi Gras

Join the wild and wonderful nerddom of Chewbacchus as they take to the streets for this Midsummer parade. For the 2022 parade, Krewe of Oak will parade a shorter route up and down Carrolton (U-turning at Cohn) and come back to a giant block party on the 8300 block of Oak by the Maple Leaf. The parade rolls at 8.

Techno Club presents Liquid DEEP at The Drifter

Cool off while getting your groove on at the Drifter with Techno Club. Featuring selections from Javier Drada, Herb Christopher, Ryan Deffes, and Nile Ashton, this “underground” event is for music lovers by music lovers. $20 all-day limited capacity ticketing only.

The Teaches of Peaches Anniversary Tour

Canadian electropunk songstress Peaches is currently on tour to celebrate the belated 20th anniversary of 2000’s The Teaches of Peaches. She’ll perform the album entirely at each show. The Teaches of Peaches tour is the singer’s first since 2017. Last year, she shared a new song titled “Pussy Mask.”

Luke Bryan at Smoothie King Center

Award-winning country superstar Luke Bryan is embarking on a nationwide tour deemed the Raised Up Right Tour. With support from Riley Green and Mitchell Tenpenny, the tour is coming to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Saturday, August 27th.

Kehlani at Champions Square

 The Grammy-nominated, multiplatinum singer has undergone multiple reinventions over the last few years. Now, they’re touring to support their latest album blue water road. With support from Rico Nasty and Destin Conrad, Kehlani’s national tour will stop at Champions Square in New Orleans on August 31.
