Breaking News: White Linen Night Cancelled Due to COVID Surge

Yesterday, the New Orleans Arts District Association announced the unfortunate cancellation of the Fidelity Bank White Linen Night Block Party.

After last year’s virtual event, the iconic White Linen Night was set to return to the New Orleans warehouse district tomorrow, August 7th.

The NOADA sights the “urging of the city” as one of the main reasons for the postponement. With the current surge of COVID cases, the Julia Street block party “is postponed indefinitely.”

After 2020’s “White Linen Light” encouraged art enthusiasts to enjoy the event through digital auctions and safely visiting galleries in Downtown New Orleans, the city was excited to welcome back the in-person festival for 2021. However, NOADA states they will continue to monitor the case numbers and hope to reschedule for sometime in October.

“While we hoped to present this summer event that so many look forward to, the safety of our galleries and their staff, the vendors for the event, and the people of New Orleans is of paramount importance. Afterreceiving word from the mayor’s office, we have decided to postpone our block party until it is safer to holdsuch an event. We look forward to being able to present programming of this nature again soon.”

For White Linen Night, each gallery presents new exhibitions, including world-class art installations from a multitude of talented artists. In addition to the Julia Street art walk event, The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) and The Ogden Museum of Southern Art were also planning to open their doors and unveil new exhibitions.

The galleries of the district will be open for our regular First Saturday openings from 6 – 9 pm, but individual gallery hours may vary. Patrons who wish to attend the openings should come prepared for controlled capacity in the galleries and masks required for entry.

The CAC’s parallel after-party event White Linen Night, After Dark is also postponed.

This year, a new title sponsor signed on to the event with ADNO, Fidelity Bank. President and CEO of Fidelity Bank Chris Ferris says the institution is proud to sign on as a sponsor and support ADNO in helping this signature event return to New Orleans.
