This holiday season, JAMNOLA is bringing even more cheer to the Marigny with the return of JINGLE JAM, their yearly holiday glow-up filled with fresh photo ops and a brand-new immersive installation.
To celebrate, they’re rolling out Locals Lagniappe pricing every single day through January 1. Louisiana residents not only get their usual locals’ discount, but can also bring out-of-towners for 50% off. Just make sure someone in the group has a Louisiana ID at check-in.
This year’s holiday setup also marks a big creative moment for JAMNOLA. They recently brought in Daniel Pilkington, an Icelandic puppeteer and visual artist selected for the YTILI Fellowship Program, to build the museum’s 30th installation. JAMNOLA already features 29 immersive rooms created by over 100 New Orleans artists, and this new piece expands that story even further.
Rouxgarou, a giant, theatrical puppet inspired by Louisiana’s legendary swamp werewolf
Working alongside JAMNOLA’s Lead Artist/Fabricator, Walker Babington, Pilkington dreamed up The Rouxgarou, a giant, theatrical puppet inspired by Louisiana’s legendary swamp werewolf. But instead of the scary Rougarou we all grew up hearing about, this version is the Roux-garou: a creature born from gumbo culture, full of movement, charm, and interactive play.
The massive puppet rises out of the wall inside JAMNOLA’s City of Dreams room, and visitors can use a ladle to “stir the pot,” making the Rouxgarou react in real time. It basically turns the whole room into a living, breathing performance.
“The Rouxgarou is about connection…between Louisiana and Iceland, myth and meal, participation and performance,” says JAMNOLA Co-Founder Jonny Liss. “It shows how creativity and community feed each other. Art, like gumbo, is best when shared.”
