BREAKING: K-12 Schools in Louisiana Shutting Down Through April Due to Coronavirus

BREAKING: Governor John Bel Edwards issued a proclamation around noon that orders public schools to close. It also directs many state workers to work remotely.

The news was first reported by NOLA.COM and the Advocate. The state is now dealing with 33 cases, and the spread in New Orleans has gotten worse over the last week.

“These steps are being taken to prevent an explosion of cases that could overwhelm hospitals and other health systems” – John Bel Edwards

Officials from the governor’s office were reluctant earlier this week to close schools, but that changed today as more and more areas are staying indoors.

This is a developing story. We will update this information as we learn more.
