The 27th New Orleans French Film Festival, hosted by NOFS, will run from February 22-28 at Prytania Theatre, with virtual streaming until March 3, 2024. Highlights include restored Cajun French films by Glen Pitre and a diverse global lineup featuring communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Swiss mountains, Québec, and Louisiana.
Johanna Makabi, a filmmaker of Senegalese and Congolese heritage, will be showcased, along with her residency at Villa Albertine in Louisiana. Passes (All Access, Virtual, and Student + Teacher) are available at neworleansfilmsociety.org/french-film-festival.

Featuring 24 films from 10 countries, the festival presents 14 features and 10 short films, capturing francophone communities worldwide in French with English subtitles. Originating from Belgium, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland, and the USA, the films showcase the richness of French language and culture.
Clint Bowie, Artistic Director, said, “In its 27th year, the French Film Festival continues to evolve, embracing the diversity of French-language cinema globally.” The festival opens with François Ozon’s crime comedy and concludes with Frederick Wiseman’s culinary masterpiece.
Louisiana’s contributions include three films, with Glen Pitre’s restored Cajun films emphasized. The festival will also premiere “Heritage” by Chasah West and Charliese West, exploring a teenager’s rediscovery of her Louisiana Creole heritage.
