It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! One of the best times of the year – Voodoo Festival and Halloweekend in New Orleans. It doesn’t get much better than that.
We’ve got a slate full of Deja Voodoo shows including Peekaboo, Bring Me the Horizon and Hobo Johnson. Our annual bashes Hell’s Gala and Fright Night take over both the Orpheum and the Metropolitan – and those are just the big name shows!
Our Weekend in New Orleans guide is below, but keep your eyes and ears peeled for lots of other underground shows coming to Nola this weekend.

Krewe du Kanaval‘s history is an interesting one, going back to 2015 when Win Butler and Regine Chassagne brought members of Preservation Hall to Haiti. There, their experiences planted the seeds of a Mardi Gras krewe that celebrates both cultures. Their Krewe aims to strengthen this bond between the two geographically different, but culturally similar locations. Now, Krewe du Kanaval hosts pop-up parties almost bi-monthly at local bars and venues, always bringing the crowds each time. DJ Windows 98 is a regular on the lineup, as is DJ Chinua.

Leyla McCalla’s “The Capitalist Blues” is brought to life with the help of local talents, surprise guests, and the sonic sculptures of the Music Box Village.
6pm & 8pm performance
The Music Box Village village neighbors and contributors Leyla McCalla and Jimmy Horn (King James and the Special Men) create a compelling new look at life inside the complexities of modern society in a not-so-modern city, in The Capitalist Blues. Airlift is excited to bring this work to life in the Music Box Village, an even smaller microcosm of the town they share, with the help of their bandmates and friends.
Special guests include Topsy Chapman & Solid Harmony, Ben Polcer, Jason Mingledorff, Logan Schutts, Jon Gross and Fan Fan !!
“As you may guess from the title of her third solo album,Leyla McCalla tackles social and economic issues pretty directly on The Capitalist Blues. The multi-instrumentalist and Carolina Chocolate Drops alumna sings about everything from injustice and poverty to her daughter’s experience with elevated levels of lead. And although the topics are heavy, the music is danceable — a treatment informed by the troubadour traditions of McCalla’s Haitian roots and the Cajun and Zydeco traditions of her adopted home in New Orleans.”- NPR’s World Cafe

Hailing from Chicago, the electronic sister duo Krewella are active vocal inspirations through their music and editorials. Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf have grown into symbols of female empowerment – a personified work ethic that transcended social and gender stigmas to ultimately achieve their dream.
With heavy rock and dance influences, the girls first burst onto the scene with their Play Hard EP in 2011. Quickly amassing almost half a billion plays, they were pioneers in male-dominated music industry and were one of the few female dance groups to secure major club residencies and festival appearances. Their rebellious fashion and attitude inspired their millions of fans to embrace themselves, and they formed an obsessed collective affectionately self-dubbed as the #KREW.
With the platinum hit ‘Alive’ under their belt, their evolution into a live rock/dance hybrid act continues into 2016 as they prepare to release their second album. With the rare ability to play both acoustic live sets and raucous Las Vegas club residencies, Krewella continues to grow into one of the most unique music performances in the world.

New Orleans brass band-meets-Mardi Gras Indian outfit Cha Wa radiates the energy of the city’s street culture. Their Grammy-nominated album “Spyboy” (a nod to frontman J’Wan Boudreaux’s role in the Golden Eagles) is a modern mix of fiery, toe-tapping sounds. Popmatters describes the band as “a grand gumbo of singing, intoxicating rhythms, and deep funk grooves that are impossible to resist.”
