The Carter V is finally here, and Lil Wayne’s comeback is in full swing.
The Young Money founder went on Tidal’s CRWN series for an in-depth conversation with Elliott Wilson. The sit-down went down in Weezy’s hometown of New Orleans. This is the first live interview since the Tha Carter V went live.
The interview covered a wide range of topics, including the long process for Tha Carter’s fifth installment. Wayne also spoke on why Drake was not featured on the album, claiming it was because of clearance issues.
“He has a song,” Wayne said. “It didn’t get cleared. People be tripping man.”
The rapper claimed “a few of the singles that [Drake and I] released throughout the years” were recorded for Tha Carter V, such as “Believe Me” which dropped back in 2014. The long legal battle between Birdman and Wayne delayed much of Tha Carter V.
On the subject of XXXTentacion, who is featured on the track “Don’t Cry,” Weezy said he didn’t know who he was until he listened to the song, and divulged that the idea to feature XXX came from Mack Maine.
