The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is gearing up for its return in 2024 with a stellar lineup that celebrates New Orleans’s diverse musical heritage.  From May 17th to May 19th, the banks of Bayou St. John will come alive with sounds ranging from funk and R&B to metal, hip-hop, cabaret, and more. Produced by Friends of Bayou St. John, this festival not only promises a fantastic musical experience but also promotes stewardship and cultural appreciation of this historic locale. The music, food, and bayou toys are just a few reasons everyone adores the annual Mid-City Neighborhood Festival.

In Addition to Music

Beyond the music stages, the festival offers a Comedy & Cabaret tent with acts like Stoned vs. Drunk vs. Sober and LGBTLOL, ensuring laughter and entertainment for all. Attendees can explore the curated arts market, indulge in local cuisine from vendors, and participate in activities like the Crawfish Eating Contest.

Environmental Initiatives

The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is committed to sustainability. In previous years, its recycling efforts resulted in thousands of pounds of materials being recycled. This year, the festival aims for even greater eco-friendly practices, supported by funding from Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

Friday, May 17 – Bass Players We Love

Friday night kicks off with former Prince bassist Nik West-leading her own band, bringing her unparalleled talent to the stage. Joining her is New Orleans bass icon George Porter Jr. & his Runnin’ Pardners, known for their infectious grooves. The lineup also includes Quintron and Miss Pussycat, SaxKixAve, and Dave Jordan & the NIA, offering a mix of styles from funk to soul.

Saturday, May 18 – Outliers and Outlaws

Saturday’s lineup showcases the diversity of New Orleans music, featuring founding Wu-Tang Clan member GZA with his band the Phunky Nomads. The day continues with local favorites like Morning 40 Federation, Naughty Professor with Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, and Pollo Asado: A NOLA Tribute to Ween. Metal fans will be thrilled with Suplecs, while beach and yacht rock enthusiasts can enjoy Marina Orchestra and Sierra Green & the Giants.

Sunday, May 19 – We Want To Take You Higher

Closing out the festival is the iconic Lez Zeppelin, delivering a powerhouse performance. Joining them are Afroman with his hit “Because I Got High,” Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Rumpelsteelskin featuring Revivalist steel guitar player Ed Williams, and more. The day also features a vibrant mix of Latin dance music with Los Guiros and The St. Claude Serenaders.

Tickets and Passes

Single-day tickets for $20.00 and 3-day weekend passes for $39.50 are available, with prices increasing on May 13th. VIP passes offering exclusive amenities are also on sale. Children under 12 enter free, and boaters can join the festivities with regular-priced tickets, contributing to the preservation of Bayou St. John.
