In a true first for New Orleans parades, the all-women super krewe Nyx just announced a summer parade rolling this July.
Nyx announced Wednesday that it will have a summer parade on July 27. The new parade would make Nyx the first organization to have two parades in one calendar year. Nyx is known to have one of the largest memberships of any parading organization in Carnival history.
Nyx’s founder Julia Lea announced in a press release that the organization sees the summer parade as “logical and fun bridge from one Mardi Gras season to the next.”
Nyx will introduce a 1970s theme for the July parade. Fans who are used to Nyx’s hand-decorated purses will get a new surprise as the parade introduces a brand new throw for the summer parade. Glittered kids-sized plastic sand shovels will be the summer parade’s signature throw. More information including the parades route should be released in the next few weeks.
