Happy beginning of winter, New Orleans! I suppose we’re just skipping fall and going straight for wet and freezing. Such is November in the swamps, I suppose.
Despite the cold, we’re still hot with events this weekend! The Annual Hell Yes Comedy Fest returns to the city throughout the weekend, as does the Creole Gumbo Festival and Nola Wing Wars.
For this weekend’s musical acts, Thievery Corporation returns to NOLA with a performance at the House of Blues. Mersiv hits the Republic on Saturday, and BROCKHAMPTON closes out the weekend with a Sunday night performance at the Fillmore.
Check out these & all our other picks from this weekend in New Orleans:

AMORAMORA :: EARLY SHOW 8PM :: NEW ORLEANS, LA
Amoramora is a working, traveling, multi-purpose quartet playing an eclectic mix of improvisational gumbo – blending and stirring together integral aspects of Psychedelic Rock, Funk Fusion, Bluegrass, Jazz & Soul. Fueled by high-energy improvisation and dance parties, the undeniable joy this quartet shares onstage and offstage is reflected by their devout and growing fanbase, the Amorons. These Rocky Mountain Boys harken back to the early days of the jam-rock scene that just oozed positivity which nurtured bands like Blind Melon, String Cheese Incident, and Strangefolk – but don’t be fooled, they can still rock hard and tug on your heart strings with heartfelt lyrics and introspective songwriting, similar to bands like My Morning Jacket and Wilco. With Danny Evans on Guitar, Mitch Frank on Keys, Zack Soczka on Bass, and Jeremiah Kripakov on Drums, the fire of the songs are ignited by relatable emotion and cheerful imagery and kept burning by extended improvisational movements.

Why do guys just want to f*ck you once then watch your Instagram stories until the end of time? How do you get over a breakup when you feel like you’re gonna die? When should you give it up? My boyfriend takes morning baths: IS THIS WEIRD? These are all questions answered on Girls Gotta Eat — a hilarious and uncensored podcast from Ashley Hesseltine and Rayna Greenberg (the ladies behind Instagram sensations @BrosBeingBasic and @OneHungryJew). GGE is a top comedy podcast on iTunes, has been reviewed as “life-changing” by thousands of listeners, and the live shows have had record-breaking sellouts in cities all across the US.
At this show, Ashley, Rayna, and special guests will answer all those burning questions about sex, dating, and relationships in a one-of-a-kind, interactive experience. No one leaves without a fresh outlook on dating and at least one new ab from laughing.
**VIP tickets include prime seating at the show followed by meeting, greeting, and taking photos with the girls.

THE SUBJECT: An all-night dancing situation, gathering place, an oasis of sweat, grime, and positivity.
THE OBJECT: Hosted at Poor Boys Bar, the Bywater meeting point for any and every type of crowd.
Notorious for its debauchery and anything-goes freakiness, this spot is a well-kept secret and favorite of
New Orleans locals. Now with a newly renovated sound system, Poor Boys Bar can truly soundtrack your
all-night excursions.
THE MATTER: You – the freak, the geek, the hedonist, the lover, the robotic dancing machine, and yes –
even the reluctant homebody. There is a space for everyone here, because you matter.
Once a month, every month, SUBJECT MATTER will bring together THE SUBJECT, THE OBJECT, and THE
MATTER. We bring a reverence for the dance music culture of yesteryear and the consciousness of
today’s clubbers.
Hosted and curated by resident DJ @Tristan Dufrene
Guest DJs: Noey Lopez (Ctg Records/Crossroads HTX)
Joe Dismal (LEGENDARY)
SUBJECT MATTER celebrates individuality and free expression. We will strive to ensure that this is a
space where revelers can dance and socialize freely without worry or judgement.
