Prytania Theatre, the oldest single-screen theater in Louisiana, has lots in store for film fans this weekend. Their flagship location located in Uptown New Orleans at 5339 Prytania Street as well as their larger venue at 333 Canal Street located inside Canal Place has lots in store this weekend for film lovers. Overlook Film Festival – prytania uptown and canal place
Starting tonight through Sunday, April 7th, Overlook Film Festival, a 4-day celebration of all things horror, taking over both Prytania locations.
Films showcased this year include CUCKOO, ABIGAIL, The Beyond, Blackout, Dead Mail, I Saw the TV Glow, Look into my Eyes, and more. View this year’s full film list here. Individual film tickets are also available to purchase if you don’t have a festival pass.
The inaugural Overlook Film Festival was held in 2017 at the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon. The Timberline will be familiar to film fans. It was the exterior of The Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 masterpiece The Shining. In 2018, the festival moved to New Orleans. Although (like every other festival across the globe) it was interrupted by the pandemic, the festival now appears to be in The Big Easy to stay.
Carol Doda Topless at the Condor – Prytania Uptown
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Prytania Uptown, experience a revealing documentary and live burlesque performances. A daring young woman ignites the flame of the 1960s sexual revolution and becomes an international icon and symbol of sexual liberation in CAROL DODA TOPLESS AT THE CONDOR, from directors Marlo McKenzie and Jonathan Parker. This Thursday and Saturday night, Overlook Film Fest, Prytania and Generations Hall partner together for two killer post-parties.

Them! – 70th Anniversary – prytania uptown
On Sunday, April 7th at 10am, Warner’s 1954 sci-fi/horror classic Them!, the first and best of the “big bug” movies that swarmed theaters during the early post-World War II Atomic Age hits Prytania Uptown. The earliest atomic tests in New Mexico cause common ants to mutate into giant man-eating monsters that threaten civilization. Check out the trailer from 1954 below!
