Preparations are nearly finished at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Friday at his afternoon coronavirus briefing that the massive hall would turn into an emergency field hospital.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Edwards toured the Ernest Morial Convention Center on Sunday, giving some of the first looks at the pop-up facility. The center is being used for positive coronavirus patients who no longer need to be hospitalized.
The center will have 1,000 beds but will have additional capacity if needed. Cantrell says there will be no walk-up admission. Patients will arrive from local hospitals.
