Portland-based producer and disc jockey Douglas Appling, better known by his stage name Emancipator, is bringing the Baralku tour to Baton Rouge’s Varsity Theatre on Thursday, February 15.
The tour kicked off at Gem and Jam Festival earlier this year. The Baralku tour was organized to promote the November 17 release of Emancipator’s fifth studio album of the same name. It concludes on March 31 in his hometown of Portland.
The album, Baralku, takes its name from an island claimed by the dead as their spiritual home in Australian indigenous culture.
Appling’s live band, Emancipator Ensemble, will be joining him on his cross-country tour. In 2017, the group performed at several high-profile festivals and venues, including Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
You can watch a recap of the ensemble’s Red Rocks set below:
Emancipator was first met with mainstream success following the 2006 release of his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough. All of his music has been independently distributed through his own Loci Records.
