Galaxie Unveils Frositas for National Tequila Day, Proceeds to Familias Unidas

One of our favorite days is tomorrow: National Tequila Day! With the day comes some delicious specials from our favorite restaurants. Galaxie in the Bywater will be serving up their delicious tacos made on homemade tortillas, quesadillas, and other snacky favorites. And something to wash it all down, FROSITAS.

Proceeds from Frosita sales all day tomorrow during National Tequila Day will go to Familias Unidas, an organization that focused on family-centered, evidence-based substance use and sexual risk behavior prevention intervention for Hispanic youth and their families.

Though their indoor seating is currently closed, you can still enjoy their gorgeous outdoor seating area under the cover of the old-school gas station that the restaurant calls home. They are open Tuesday-Saturday from 5pm-10pm.

The people behind the eclectic hotspot, Patrick Finney and Ken Jackson, opened up Galaxie just last December. Finney is the owner of The Franklin located on Dauphine Street; while Jackson was an original partner with Herbsaint. Finney’s love for the Taqueria-style restaurant came to be after living in Mexico City for 6 years following college.

At Galaxie, they stick to the roots and basics of Mexican food while supporting local farmers in Oaxaca, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. They source black beans and corn directly from Oaxaca; the corn is used for their homemade masa for its tortillas.

As for cocktails, mezcal is their specialty. Their selection includes over 20 different varieties from different regions. Their house cocktail list relied heavily on help from Evan Wolf from Company Burger, and Jason Sorbet from Barrel Proof. The two created some unique originals that will be the perfect side accompaniment for your tacos.
