Update as of 7:30pm: The body of one man who died in the collapse was removed from the building, according to the officials latest report. Search and rescue missions are still ongoing as they continue to search for one missing. This area is still blocked off to pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
It’s been about 24 hours since the Hard Rock Hotel tragically collapsed onto the city streets of New Orleans, and new updates are starting to flood in this morning.
Last night, Mayor Cantrell reported two confirmed deaths, with one person still missing. The city has not identified the victims at this time but is working to contact their families.
There is a large crane on the way to New Orleans that will be used to help stabilize the building from executing any further damage. Rescue efforts – at this moment – are suspended until the building is better secured.
“Given the structural collapse of the building, we can not continue this search until new equipment comes into play. Search and rescue should resume late Sunday.” – Superintendent Tim Mcconnell
There is still no word on what caused the collapse. Rumors have circulated on the internet since yesterday, but nothing is confirmed as of this moment. Investigations into the cause of the collapse won’t begin until the building is secure, and all search and rescue operations have ceased.
