The devastation from Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas is all to close to those who lived through Hurricane Katrina. When times like this happen, it’s comforting to see those come together to help.
If you are looking to get hands-on involved, Second Harvest Foodbank is collecting food to take to those in need. At the moment, they are wanting:
- Canned foods
- greens, peas, green beans, beans, tomatoes, soup, fruits
- if possible, large No. 10 cans (109 ounces) requested
- Dry goods
- various mixes (cake, brownie, cornbread), grits, rice, pasta, oils
According to NOLA.com, you can drop off food between 8:30 am to 3:30 pm today (Sept. 17) and tomorrow (Sept. 18) at Second Harvest Food Bank, 700 Edwards Ave. Or between 11 am and 6 pm at St. James Cheese Company atย 5004 Prytania St. in New Orleans.
Please label your food: “Community Kitchen / Florence Relief: Attention Jeff Dreier and chef Amy Cyrex Sins.”
