Compère Lapin Brings Back Six Bartender Alumni for a Three-Night Homecoming

Tulane isn’t the only one celebrating homecoming this November. Compère Lapin is getting some familiar faces back behind the bar for a reunion of its own.

From November 7–9, Chef Nina Compton’s restaurant will host Fighting Bunnies Homecoming Weekend, bringing six former bartenders together for three nights of cocktails, catching up, and celebrating the people who helped build its bar program.

The returning crew includes Ricky Gomez, Abigail Gullo, Scott Hicks, Joey Laura, and Erika Flowers. They’ll appear in pairs throughout the weekend, revisiting cocktails they created during their time at Compère Lapin. Guests can also try newer drinks from the restaurant’s current bar program, giving everyone a little taste of where things started and where they are today.

For longtime regulars, it’s a chance to revisit an old favorite and reconnect with the person who first poured it. For anyone newer to the restaurant, it’s an opportunity to meet some of the talent behind its cocktail reputation.

Gomez helped launch Compère Lapin’s original bar program when the restaurant opened in 2015. Gullo later took the lead and earned the 2016 Heaven Hill Brands/Liquor.com Bartender of the Year title. Fellow alumni Flowers and Williams have also earned national recognition for their work.

And yes, the restaurant is leaning into the homecoming theme. Expect Fighting Bunnies pennants, pom-poms, custom cups, and plenty of school spirit from the unofficial “Bunny U.”

For co-owner Larry Miller, the weekend is about bringing the crew back together, celebrating how their careers have grown, and sharing another round with the people who helped make the bar what it is. A reunion, sure—but also a good excuse to throw a party.

Fighting Bunnies Homecoming Weekend runs Saturday, November 7, through Monday, November 9, during regular evening hours. The bar opens at 4:30 p.m.
