In an effort to give back and serve the wellness of New Orleans, the inaugural Day of Yoga celebration takes over City Park next weekend. The Jai Bhakti Yoga Foundation is hosting a donation based day of yoga on the Great Lawn at City Park on Sunday the 23rd.
Christina Andrini and her team of mobile teachers intend to make yoga available to the masses. In honor of September as International Yoga Month, practitioners and students across the city are offering their services to the public.
The day begins with a group meditation at 8:45. Afterwards, teachers will be hosting various classes throughout the day. Patrons have two different classes per hour to choose from.
Check out the schedule below:
9 am-10 am: Sarah Corcoran Forrest Yoga or Indra Maghavan Flow Your Soul
10:30 am – 11:30 am: Joni Hodes Hatha Power Flow or Jason Davey Flow – Nola Seva
12 pm-1 pm: Kellie Bischof Flow or Baye Elizabeth – Nola Tribe Yoga
1:30 pm-2:30 pm: Kaitlyn Clement Flow or Dina Schaefer Healing Flow
3pm: Closing Class w/ Christina Andrini of Jai Bhakti Yoga Foundation or Ryan Stevens of RE YOGA NOLA
Reiki sessions and on-site tarot readings will also be available from local practitioners. A nearby kids corner will also be open so parents can practice too. The event is a casual “pop in and out” deal. Feel free to stay, explore and meet new people, or come for your favorite teacher then call it a day. Participants are not required to give, but a $5 suggested donation helps support New Orleans’ underserved and disadvantaged communities.
The event hopes to inspire people to come together and deepen their practice as one. As Christina Andrini of the Jai Bhakti Foundation says:
“One mat, one person, one mission at a time.”
