The internet is the most powerful tool on the planet. It has the ability to begin and end careers. If you are a music lover you realize the importance of the internet to musicians. It allows them to build their careers, market their brand, grow fans organically and be relevant to large audiences. With the rise in the internet comes the rise of internet “trends” or internet “Challenges”.
The latest of these viral trends is none other then the “Mannequin Challenge”. It’s pretty simple, the object is for people to remain frozen in action like mannequins while a video is recorded, usually with the song “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background. Everyone from school children, to politicians have been getting in on the action. These “challenges” have been happening for awhile with the Running Man Challenge, the Cheerio Challenge and trends like planking, Silento’s Whip/Nae Nae dance, dabbing and of course, the harlem shake.
These random viral events have been especially good to 21st century musicians. Huge producers such Baauer, Getter, Dillon Francis, Skrillex, and Diplo have seized on these internet trends and rode the wave to the top of the community. The mannequin challenge seems to prove no different. Some of the best videos have come from some of the biggest names in the music world.
The challenge looks somewhat erie, as if someone pressed pause during the middle of a show. The low energy and calm crowd is something to gaze upon.
We seriously can’t get enough of it.
So to show our excitement we grouped together our top selections over the past week. You can check out our selections below!
