City Officials Cancel All St. Patrick’s Day Parades & Wednesday at the Square

After two new coronavirus cases were announced in New Orleans, Mayor Cantrell has cancelled Wednesday at the Square and St. Patrick’s Day parades. This includes the Irish Channel parades, the French Quarter parade, the Italian-American parade, and Super Sunday in Uptown.

Tomorrow was supposed to be the return of Wednesday at the Square, a weekly event during the Spring put on by YLC. Unfortunately, officials have also nixed this for the time being.

Governor Edwards stressed the importance of taking measures to protect your health and reduce the spread of illness. This includes “avoiding going out in public when you are sick, washing your hands, social distancing and disinfecting commonly used surfaces,” Edwards said.

New Orleans is not the first to cancel large-scale events due to the coronavirus outbreak. In Miami, Ultra Music Festival is cancelled for later this month. Coachella in California is also said to be cancelled, with more festival and event cancellations on the way. All above 5,000 people events in Europe have been cancelled.

What does this mean for BUKU Music + Arts Project and Jazz Fest in New Orleans? Stay tuned for more information from city officials.
